Introducing EverCare's Positive Reef Initiative

EverCare is committed to offering ingredients that allow for the creation of reef-friendly sun care products, while at the same time positively contributing to stop coral reef damage and promote its restoration.

Coral reefs are key to preserving aquatic biodiversity. Sadly, coral reefs are in danger all over the world. While changes in the environment, particularly global warming, have largely contributed to the bleaching of coral reefs, heightened consumer awareness surrounding this global catastrophe has led to increased scrutiny of our own impact on coral reef health, particularly concerning the use of certain UV filters in sunscreens. To do more than just offer reef-safe UV filters for sun care, EverCare is introducing the Positive Reef Initiative, a program to promote reef health through active contribution in scientific endeavours.

This initiative is focused on 3 key commitments.

Promotion of smart UV filters based on thorough scientific understanding of their impact

In this age of fast information and social media, it is not always easy to understand or explain the nuances and complicated risk exposure linked to UV filters. EverCare commits to fully understand and present the real impact of UV filters, especially zinc oxide, on aquatic life in general and particularly on corals. We will follow and help science evolve on this topic.

Active contribution to reef propagation

As partners together with the NGO Love The Oceans, we are involved in a program to study and repopulate the coral reef of Guyana Bay in Mozambique. This two-phased study is part of a larger global initiative to study coral reef population and health to put in place propagation programs tailored to the needs of regional reef environments.

Limit our own impact on global warming

As CO2 levels remain by far the biggest threat to coral reefs, we are aware of our social responsibility as a company and as responsible citizens to commit to reduce our carbon footprint. As a first engagement, we are compensating all travel related emissions through the UN carbon offset program.

Our initiative is illustrated by the Positive Initiative Reef seal representing the three pillars of engagement we are committed to. The seal is available for use by customers of our Zano® and Xperse® products to illustrate their commitment to having a positive impact on the health of coral reefs.
